MANZINI – He was known and respected by people of high esteem.

That is former and late Manzini Wanderers Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pat Mahlalela. Yesterday at the Divine Healing Ministries, Khanya Mabuza, who represented NERCHA, the organisation which Mahlalela worked for, told mourners that he had a special message which Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini personally requested he relayed at the memorial service.

“I have known Pat in his first professional life as I was his chairman. He was an upright professional man. I want to send my condolences to NERCHA and his family.”

This was the message which Mabuza said the premier requested he relayed at the memorial service. On another note, Mabuza also highlighted that he had yet another message he was asked to relay by the current UN country representative.

According to Mabuza, the UN country representative asked him to share with mourners that Pat’s demise was a dent to the national response on HIV/AIDS when they were just about to meet their target. The representative then sent condolences to NERCHA and the deceased’s family.

Meanwhile, hundreds attended Mahlelala’s memorial and the Wanderers family had come in numbers.

These include elders, the Management Committee (MC), the National Supporters Committee (NSC); head coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe, players and supporters.

The deceased was described by his brother Melbourne as an opinionated someone who was ready to take any challenge.

He said Pat was family oriented and on a lighter note, left mourners astonished when he narrated an incident where the deceased had relations with his (Melbourne) girlfriend.  Melbourne said he had come to introduce the girl for the first time to his brother and when he confronted him about the relationship, Pat told him that traditionally, he was to remarry (kungena) the girl when the brother passed on.
