OVER 40 EXERCISES AT BOOT CAMP

MANZINI – Fitness is about being better than you were yesterday.

About 90 people joined the second Zithande boot camp on Saturday morning at Manzini Club, a three-hour training session choreographed by fitness coach and athlete Nsizwa Thwala. Quoted in verbatim, ‘exercise is good pain and without regular exercise you are a dead man walking’, Thwala’s words echoed across the field as he motivated the attendants to push their limits through the combination of over 40 highly effective exercises that were spiced up with a bit of intensity.

Warm-up

The boot camp started off with a 20-minute warm-up exercise before getting down to the real business of the day, overall body workout. According to Thwala, most of the participants were first timers and interestingly, people came from as far as Nhlangano and Pigg’s Peak and made it to the arena before 6am. At least 60 people joined the first event that was staged at the same venue on August 1, 2020.

“What excites me the most is that people are spreading the word and encouraging their associates to join the boot camp. During this COVID-19 era, most people are concerned about scientific medication but I can assure you that regular exercise is and will always be the best medication for overall human health and wellness,” said Thwala.

Ladies formed about 80 percent of the attendants.

Thwala reminded them that designer outfits looked even better on well-built bodies and encouraged them to focus on shape-up not make-up. It was this kind of motivation that forced them to grind one of the most challenging exercises of the day, stomach crunch exercises which incorporated the reverse table, bicycle crunches, lateral stretches, Russian twists, power push-ups and jack push-ups.

“My biggest challenge is the size of my stomach. I haven’t trained in at least five months so these are the kind of exercises I need to reduce the size of my tummy.

Tough

“It’s really tough and I will force myself until I achieve my desired goal because it’s all worth it,” said first time boot camp attendant Vusi Mngomezulu.

The boot camp was staged in an open area and it was worth noting that people maintained at least a two-metre distance between one another to avoid direct physical contact. As advised by the host, they all came with their own water bottles, towels and yoga mats.

“We do not want to compromise the rules and regulations guarding against the spread of COVID-19 so I can boldly say that we are adhering to the rules. In terms of numbers, we will stick to 90 and I would advise people to reserve their spaces by registering early in order to avoid disappointments,” advised Thwala.

The next event is planned for the same venue on a date that is yet to be confirmed by Thwala.
