GREEN MAMBA MIGHT LOSE CAF CONFED SPOT

MBABANE – As the debate rages on as to who will represent the country in the CAF Confederations Cup, Green Mamba might as well be out of the race to compete in Africa.

This is because, according to updated CAF club licensing regulations, they do not meet the requirement set by the Confederation of African Football.(CAF).

One of the many requirements is to have annual audited statements that reflect the club’s expenditure and income among other administration pillars. This includes the payment of salaries, which Green Mamba have been struggling to conform to. They publicly admitted that they were failing to pay their players for the past three months. They had promised to ‘sort’ the players who were owed their salaries this past month.

“Every MA (member association) is required to ensure that clubs meet the minimum financial criteria set out in the CAF club licensing regulations.

Liabilities

“These include the submission of annual statements that have been audited setting out minimum information such as the current assets, non-current assets, current liabilities, non- current liabilities, net assets or liabilities and equity of the clubs.

In addition, clubs must clearly declare their revenue and expenses and these must be kept in proper accounting records,” an extract from the CAF Club Licensing reads. The players confided in this publication that they have not received their salaries for August.  Noteworthy is that not all the players are not paid, only 12 that are not hired as officers at His Majesty’s Correctional Service. Otherwise the remainder of the players are hired as officers and get paid through their job.

When sought for comment, Green Mamba CEO Mandla Sibiya confirmed that they had not paid the 12 players their salaries.

Deliberate

“We have not yet met as MC to deliberate on this matter. However, we will meet soon as some of those who were on leave are back, we will find a lasting solution and hopeful the players’ needs will be addressed,” Sibiya said.

He highlighted that it was not only Green Mamba that was struggling to remunerate their players, but big institutions were affected by the spread of the coronavirus.

When asked about CAF club licensing requirements, he said he was well aware of that and they were running around the clock to sort this matter. He emphasised that this has never happened before; he blamed it on the COVID-19 pandemic,  which he said crippled the country’s economy in all sectors.

Green Mamba represented the country in the CAF Champions League last season but unfortunately they were eliminated by Zambia’s Zesco United.
