Ezulwini – Chief Ally Kgomongwe has come to the rescue of Manzini Wanderers. The capital giants, Mbabane Highlanders’ managing director, in a joint press conference with the hub side, announced that he would be paying Wanderers players their salaries and giving them a lump sum to sign players.

Present during the press briefing held at the Happy Valley Resort yesterday was Wanderers’ Sandile ‘Chief’ Dlamini, Peter Mathaba, council of elders, and members of the Management Committee (MC) led by Chairman Bongani ‘Bhanyaza’ Mdluli. Highlanders were represented by their director, Kgomongwe, Benson Dlamini and PRO Paul ‘Magidza’ Masilela among other officials.
According to Kgomongwe, he had found prospective directors for Wanderers, a male and a female, his business partners, whose identities were not disclosed.

agreed

“I had two potential directors who have agreed to take over at Manzini Wanderers, a lady and a male who both indicated keen interest. I would have come with them to Eswatini but they could not get paperwork due to the strict travelling restrictions,” said Kgomongwe.
The South African politician and businessman said he arrived in the kingdom on Sunday after a bit of a struggle, but things were made easier in getting paperwork by the fact that he conducted business in the country. He said he had received a message, while in South Africa, that Wanderers wanted to beef up their squad.

“After Wanderers asked me what would happen because teams were signing players, I agreed to give them money to pay for players’ salaries and sign new players,” said Kgomongwe.
He said he had a consensus with the potential directors to help pay for Wanderers players’ salaries and then give them money to sign players.
The arrangement, according to Kgomongwe, was that once the issue of compliance with travel regulations was sorted by the potential directors, they would come to Eswatini and repay the money Kgomongwe would have spent assisting Wanderers.

promising

“From the two potential directors, Wanderers will have the option to choose either one but both are promising. There must be a plan A and B in case the other does not work,” said Kgomongwe.
Wanderers will have to formulate a comprehensive budget plan for their financial needs and submit these to Kgomongwe so that he releases the funds.

The businessman emphasised that there was no need for supporters to have a negative attitude in as far as this arrangement between the two teams was concerned. He said ‘Weslians’ wrote a letter to authorise him to help scout for a director. Kgomongwe said he even had visits from Chief and the late reverend Percy Mngomezulu to prove that they had always had a good relationship. He said they would always help each other as Africans.
Wanderers had been struggling since the departure of South Africa-based businessman Mehluli Nhlengetfwa with players going for months without pay.
