MBABANE – Chances to restart the 2019/20 football season are next to zero. That is if the words of the Minister of Heath, Lizzie Nkosi, are anything to go by. According to the minister, a miracle is needed for football to return in the country.
This, the minister revealed in an interview with the Times Sports Desk after she had been asked for her expert point of view on whether there was a possibility to finish the 2019/20 season.

Nkosi had been asked to make her analysis based on the escalating numbers of infections and deaths due to COVID-19.

“Football is not allowed yet. If by some miracle we get an effective treatment or vaccine, things may change,” said the minister briefly.
Meanwhile, on July 9, 2020, the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, said the break would certainly come to an end sooner or later during his address in the Ingwenyama Cup 2019/20 prize-giving ceremony at Happy Valley Resort.

The Mbabane East Member of Parliament (MP) said football would return but it must do so once the environment was safe. For now, Bulunga asked for patience from the nation and said they all loved football and sports.
The former Sihlangu coach also highlighted that they were grateful to football and sports for being the first to respond when COVID-19 struck in the country. He said they knew as a ministry that it was not easy but they responded positively to assist government.

It is now over five months since football was suspended indefinitely on March 13 – just a week after the Ingwenyama Cup final between runners-up Mbabane Highlanders and eventual champions Green Mamba.
The Eswatini Football Association (EFA) will announce the fate of the season next month as revealed by football head honcho Adam ‘Bomber’ Mthethwa during their 2020 ordinary general assemble held at the Happy Valley Resort on Sunday, June 28.
