MBABANE – Green Mamba players are not happy with the Ingwenyama Cup cash incentives. This is after they were rewarded with E166 000 by the team’s president and Correctional Services Commissioner General Phindile Dlamini from the first prize money last Thursday.

According to the players, those who made it to the Last18 during the richly-sponsored tournament received E7 000 each while the eight players who did not feature in the last 18 received E5 000. There are 26 players at Green Mamba.
“This is not fair because when we won the league last season, we received E10 000.The MTN prize money is less than the Ingwenyama Cup prize.

“We feel we were short-changed here, we were expecting at least E15 000 each,” said one of the players. The defending league champions received E1 million while in the Ingwenyama they took home E1.4 million.
Another player said he was even thinking of resigning. “Bro, we work hard here only to receive peanuts. It is very painful.”
Another player said they wanted the former management committee to be reinstated. “This is completely unacceptable. The former MC used to negotiate on our behalf with the president. Seeminglym the current MC does not care, in fact if it we had things our way, we would have loved the former MC to be reinstated,” said another player.

The club Chief Executive Officer, Mandla Sibiya, said players knew the procedure. “They cannot go to the newspaper to speak about this. They have to address this in a letter and direct it to the president. In fact it is the discretion of the president to reward them with the incentives, otherwise all the players are paid monthly,” said Sibiya.
He said almost 80 per cent of the squad were employed by His Majesty’s Correctional Services.

He said those who were not employed were getting monthly salaries from the team’s coffers.
Noteworthy is that the head coach, Caleb Ngwenya, got E140 000 as per the agreement in his contract, which entitles him to get 10 per cent of every prize money that would be won by the club.
‘Inyoka Eluhlazana’, as the team are affectionately known, were crowned champions of the SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup on March 8 after beating Mbabane Highlanders 2-0 in the final that was watched by His Majesty King Mswati III and over 10 000 football lovers.

Goals from Mxolisi Mkhontfo and Mthunzi Mkhontfo were enough to seal victory for the Correctional Services side at Somhlolo National Stadium.
