MBABANE - Age is nothing but a number.

This adage proved true when 13-year-old golfer Sinethemba Mhlanga won the April edition of the MTN Masters. He carded a record score of 45 points to beat a field of 56 golfers who competed in the monthly competition at Mbabane Golf Course yesterday. Interestingly, among the golfers who participated was his father Welcome Mhlanga. Other golfers that were part of the April edition were Cosmo ‘Wall of Death’ Mthethwa, Mduduzi Maphalala, Valentine Maziya, Siphesihle Mhlanga and March edition winner Qiniso Mkhonta.

Latest developments

The latest developments were confirmed by the Mbabane Golf Club Captain Kenneth Nkambule yesterday. “Sinethemba was just exceptional on the day as he beat an unbeatable score. By the time he finished playing the other golfers were still playing. You will remember that the competition was played in modified stable ford format, where golfers were playing in groups of four,” said Nkambule. He went on to commend the young golfer and also thanked golfers for adhering to the COVID-19 rules and regulations. “We have to commend golfers for observing the COVID-19 rules and regulations. They sanitised and observed social distancing,” he added. When reached for comment, Sinethemba’s father Welcome, said: “I am happy Sinethemba won his second tournament playing with an official handicap. At 13 years old I think he has a bright future in the sport. His coaches will continue to guide him until he becomes a great golfer,” he said.
