MATSAPHA – Lanky and vastly experienced striker Sandile Hlatshwako has potential suitors knocking on his door after Mbabane Swallows released him about a week ago.

As soon as the news came out, Swallows’ traditional rivals, Mbabane Highlanders, did not waste time pouncing on the record-achieving striker, who has enjoyed success with the red and white glamour giants domestically and beyond the borders of Eswatini. Swallows remain highly ranked in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for their memorable group stage finish in the Champions League over two seasons ago. Hlatshwako is one of several players reported to have been released by Swallows due to either contracts coming to an end or termination of same. Others are Richard McCreesh, Sibonginkosi ‘Gudas’ Dlamini, Paito Dube, Ndumiso Ndaba, Vusumuzi Zungu and Siphamandla Dhlamini.

Confirmed

Some of these players confirmed to being in possession of the letters of termination or released from their contracts. “Highlanders have already met with Sandile and he’s not the only one they will be talking to I believe,” said one of the players’ agents on condition of anonymity. It is understood that just as Hlatshwako met Highlanders and reportedly agreed terms with the club’s Chairman, Chief Ally Kgomongwe, Swallows also called the player to a meeting of its own a day later. “It’s like one top official at Swallows disapproved of Hlatshwako’s release and requested to meet him before he made any move,” said one of the Highlanders’ officials close to the issue. It transpired that the player allegedly met Swallows yesterday but no agreement was apparently reached.

Hlatshwako was asked about the developments and he did confirm the talks with Highlanders but did not want to give anything away yet. “We will finalise everything next week Tuesday,” was all he could say when pressed on the issue. He insisted that there was no need to rush when asked about his talks with Highlanders. Highlanders’ award-winning PRO Paul ‘Magidz’eludzakeni’ Masilela was diplomatic in his response. “We are doing all we can to sign good players,” Masilela said, before adding that they needed to win the next edition of the Ingwenyama Cup after two consecutive finals ended in runners-up position for his team.
