MBABANE – Eswatini Football Association (EFA) will allocate E2 275 000 (two million two hundred and seventy-five Emalangeni) for its member associations.

EFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngometulu announced in a press briefing at Sigwaca House yesterday that this money is meant to help members mitigate the effects of COVID-19.

He said this was after the association analysed its financial capacities in careful consideration of its continuance to ensure the survival of the country’s football mother body and inherent pertinent football business respectively.
The CEO further announced that this money will be distributed among all the eight member associations including the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE), four regional football associations (Lubombo, Manzini, Hhohho and Shiselweni), Women Football Association (WFA), Eswatini Coaches Association and Eswatini Referees Association.

Of note is that the PLE will get E700 000, which is E500 000 less than the money publicly demanded by premier league teams from their executive committee in a recent special meeting.
It was further gathered that the 26 elite teams have submitted their financials to the PLE executive committee, with the calculations said to have already exceeded E3 million.

“Details on the utilisation and accountability of the allocated funds will be advanced to the respective members,” Mngometulu said.
“The long-serving Mngometulu also mentioned that the association was still waiting for the mooted FIFA’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, stating that money from the association’s coffers was being utilised to assist the members.

“The definite relief fund, for which the subject of the relief fund was borne, has not yet been determined by FIFA.
“This is because the FIFA task teams are currently finalising the impact assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic across the 211 member associations of FIFA and their germane financial governance institutional processes,” he said.

Mngometulu also stated that the executive committee will, on confirmation and communication of EFA’s determined respective relief fund with inherent conditions, assemble to accordingly implement the fund utilisation in compliance with the financial governance and statutory requirements that will be prescribed for it.
“It must be clear that this funding for the members will also be accounted for as FIFA demands but the conditions will be given to the members,” he said.
