MBABANE – It will be a yoga day. The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC) is inviting the public to join the Virtual International Day of Yoga on Sunday.

The day will be celebrated by the High Commission of India based in Mbabane. ESRC’s Business and Development Manager, Zama Tsabedze, said yoga is one of the best ways of training or to engage in physical activities under the lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
“Try yoga during this partial lockdown as an additional exercise option.

“It is simple. The beauty about it is that you do not need to be a yogi or yogini to practice it and reap the benefits. Yoga has the power to calm the mind and strengthen the body,” he said.

Tsabedze added that people must not be threatened by the terminology and the complicated poses.
“Move slowly through each pose, remembering to breathe as you move. Pause after any pose you may find challenging, especially if you are short of breath, and start again when you are breathing normally.

“The idea is to hold each pose for a few seconds, breathing slowly before moving on to the next one. Yoga is for everyone,” he said.
Tsabedze said there was a protocol that would have to be followed by one to join during the virtual day.
He said first people will have to download the common yoga protocol video from https://youtu.b/ Av5ib_XRKT4 and follow the instructions by practising at home.

“People will then have to share the pictures or videos with us on whatsapp +91885026344 or Facebook (High Commission India – Mbabane Eswatini).
“The videos will then be on social media on June 21-28,” he said. Tsabedze urged the nation to adopt yoga for healthy living.
He said they would be trending with the #YogaFromHome.
