ELITE TEAMS WON’T SHARE EQUALLY

MBABANE – Elite teams will be required to produce their financials to determine their share of the COVID-19 Relief Fund.

The Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) is expected to dish out this money to the 26 premier league teams as means of easing their financial burden, in light of the wide-spreading virus. Initially, the feeling among the majority of the PLE Board of Governors (BoGs) was that this money should be shared equally by the teams as the effects of the virus were the same for everybody.

However, in an executive committee meeting on Thursday morning at the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Technical Centre in Lobamba, the executive committee decided that the rate at which teams must be paid will not be the same.

“After discussions, the feeling of the executive committee members was that teams must each submit financials as that would present the detailed costs of running those teams. For instance, the wage bill of Manzini Wanderers cannot be the same as that of Tambuti FC and the same applies to the big teams like Mbabane Swallows and Mbabane Highlanders.

“The reality is that these teams are operating on different levels financially and so you cannot say that they should share the same amount with the other teams.

“Players from the security forces teams are mostly full-time employees, which means there is a big chance that they do not get salaries at their respective teams but simple incentives,” an informed PLE source confided.

The BoGs are expected to be informed of these developments during their meeting scheduled for Tuesday at Lobamba, where a number of other pressing issues will be discussed.
