MBABANE – Mbabane Highlanders’ stylish Managing Director (MD) Chief Ally Kgomongwe has come out to reveal that there is infighting among the team’s officials, something he feels is undermining his efforts to transform the Mbabane giants into a competitive outfit.

Speaking to this publication in a frank interview yesterday, the Pretoria-based businessman punched holes in the glaring lack of unity between the officials and said this was breeding internal politics that were watering down all his efforts as the team’s leader. This comes in light of the sudden resignation of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Melusi Dlamini over the weekend.

Unfriendly

Kgomongwe was at pains explaining that the division among the officials was creating an unfriendly environment and causing unnecessary unrest within the team’s administrative structures.

“The officials at Highlanders are not pulling in the same direction because some come with hidden agendas and this is creating politics we do not need as a team. My vision is to help Highlanders compete and win trophies but to achieve that, I need united officials on the ground.

Right now, there is backbiting and backstabbing involving the officials and this is not doing the reputation of the team any good,” the African National Congress (ANC) politician lamented. Kgomongwe, a respected and successful businessman in Pretoria, further mentioned that some of the team’s officials were demanding to be paid salaries like the players.

Enrich

“My mission at Highlanders is to help the team win trophies, not to enrich individuals. I only pay salaries for players, not MC members. I have noticed that some of the officials appointed into the MC are driven by financial interests because they expect to be paid salaries for serving the team they love, which to me, is unheard of.

“My understanding is that MC members are more like volunteers and cannot demand to be paid salaries like players. That is why you see officials come and go because when they realise that I only pay salaries for players, they do not stay long,” Kgomongwe stated.
