MBABANE – Teqball teams can now register with the Eswatini Teqball Federation (ETF).

This is a newly-introduced sport in the country which is played over a curved table combining elements of soccer and table tennis. Back and forth, the players hit a soccer ball with any part of the body except arms and hands. Teqball can be played between two players as a singles game, or between three or four players as a doubles game.

ETF President Mfanafuthi ‘Taribo’ Bhembe said some of their projects had been stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Compete

He said interested teams who would like to form teams that would compete in their tournaments should approach their office.
“Our progress is now stalled by the coronavirus, otherwise those interested in forming teams that will affiliate with us can do so. We are open and we are looking forward to registering over 20 teams and then report back to the world mother body, Federation International de Teqball (FITEQ) based in Hungary, where we hope to get financial assistance,” he said.

Bhembe is President of the executive committee that was elected in December which includes Thula Simelane, who is the event organiser, Senzo Malaza, who is the spokesperson, former Mbabane Swallows players Sandile Mndlovu (Treasurer), Lwazi ‘Zidane’ Maziya, Dudu Dube, Njabuliso Simelane, Sibusiso ‘Spoko’ Dlamini, Nolwazi Ngwenyama, Khabonina LaNgwenya, Nonhlanhla Shoulder and Linda ‘Master’ Dlamini.

ETF will be sharing some of the tables with the local Premier Legaue teams as already Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows were the first teams to be given the tables to use in their clubs during the lockdown. The tables will be given to the other teams as time goes on.

Bhembe said they only received five tables and one was handed over to the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games (EOCGA) and it was stationed at the Olympafrica Development Centre.
