MBABANE – In what will come as shocking news, Eswatini international Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze is no more a Polokwane City player.

According to sources close to the matter, the former Mbabane Swallows midfielder’s contract was terminated as opposed to previous reports that he was loaned to Mbombela United.
The PSL side released the Eswatini international in January in order to open spaces for foreign players. The player had to be released after failing to get game-time at ‘Rise and Shine’.

City coach Clinton Larsen was recently quoted by Kick-off.com confirming that his club had parted ways with Sikhondze, who had since been linked with Mbombela United.
“Banele took one of our foreign spots and the fact that he hardly got game-time even before I arrived, we unfortunately had to make a tough decision of releasing him,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mbombela United Director Oupa Matsebula also confirmed that they bought the player outright.

“Yes, it is true that we acquired the services of Sikhondze as a permanent deal not on loan basis,” Matsebula said briefly.
When asked how long ‘Pupu’s contract at Mbombela United was, Matsebula did not want to reveal further details.

Efforts to get the player’s comments were futile as when called several times yesterday, his mobile phone rang unanswered.
The player joined City on a three-year contract and E360 000 signing on fee in July 2018. He was reportedly pocketing a monthly salary of E50 000.
