MBABANE – For a lot of players, football is a passion and job hence there is no time to stop training.

Amid the 20-day partial lockdown which is on its 13th day, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows’ Congolese mid-fielder Zicco Mbikayi Luaba has not stopped fitness training, not for a single day, as he does his workout in the comfort of his house.

Luaba stressed that he was adhering to the lockdown and taking all the precautionary measures to be safe from being infected with the fatal virus.
The talented player said he was hoping for everything to stabilise so that they could return to the soccer pitch and fight for their relegation-threatened team to secure a place in the premier league next season.

Black Swallows are currently fighting to avoid the axe at the basement of the MTN Premier League log table where they have amassed 11 points earned in three victories and two draws. They have lost 13 games in 18 fixtures.

Dangerous

“Coronavirus is very dangerous and we are all scared. I am entirely locked down in the house and doing my exercises either in the living room or the bedroom. I do not entertain visitors and do not visit anyone either. Football is my passion and job so there is no time to stop training because we all have to be fit and ready to play when the games resume,” said Luaba.

In terms of home training, Luaba uses his carpet to do abdominal exercises (20 sets), push-ups and wrap-up his workout by strengthening his entire body using a skipping rope, doing not less than 150 skips per session.

“In our team we were not provided with an exercise plan and we do not have personal trainers so I made up my own training programme. I recharge my body by jogging around my house then get down to push-ups and stomach exercises. I also make good use of the skipping rope,” he said.
As a safety precaution, the player said he uses hand sanitiser to disinfect his hands before and after touching anything in the house and also boosts his immune system by drinking a concoction of ginger, garlic and lemon hot tea.

Eating healthy is very important in maintaining a healthy and fit body. Luaba also encouraged all sportsmen and the nation at large to incorporate healthy eating in their fitness goals as he warned that the coronavirus takes advantage of a weak immune system.
