MBABANE – It took her two years to lose 18kg. No matter where you are with your weight loss journey, the best inspiration you can find is other people’s successful weight loss stories.

Our inspiration for this week is taekwondo artist Ncobile Ginindza from Manzini. Constant exercise and healthy eating are key in losing your desired weight. Telling you that it would be easy would be a blue lie.

The only recipe for a successful weight loss plan is determination, sacrifice, hard work and perseverance. Ginindza shared her story with the hope of motivating others to start on their own journey. Here is how she did it…

Name: Ncobile Ginindza
What was your weight then compared to now?
My heaviest weight was 80kg in the year 2018 and now I am down to 62kg.
What do you think contributed to your weight gain before you started training?

I have been active in sports since primary school. I played netball then joined taekwondo in the year 2003. I gained weight when I took a break from sports due to personal reasons and that’s when my weight shot up to 80kg.
When did you start feeling uncomfortable about your body?

I decided to lose the weight in 2018. I missed my fit and active body so that is when I intensified my training and dropped to 62kg. I am happy with how I look and feel.
During your weight loss journey, what challenges did you encounter and how did you manage to overcome them?
In the process of cutting down my weight, I had to sacrifice meat, which is my favourite and a whole lot of fat and junk food.

I would usually join Zithande Fitness Club members in their detox programme for weeks. At some point, some of my family members and friends thought I was sick or stressed. I had to convince them that I was perfectly fine just that I was deep into my training routine. Even so, they would tell me to stop but because this was something I wanted so dearly, I continued to work hard.

What is your training routine?
I am also Zithande Athletics Club member so I join their morning long runs and fitness boot camps. On Mondays and Thursdays, I am at the Fitness Zone doing taekwondo with the Next Generation Taekwondo Academy.

On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, I do taekwondo sessions at Mavuso Sports Emporium with Palaistra taekwondo. I dedicate my Sundays to mountain hiking with a group of friends. Training has become my everyday life.
What are your fitness and weight goals?
I want to maintain this weight and never exceed 70kg ever again. I am now focusing on building visible and well defined muscles both in my lower and upper body.
What sort of nutritional changes have you done since you embarked on the weight loss journey?
Fizzy drinks, fat and sugar are a thing of the past now. I make sure that I eat light meals in the morning and evening. I drink lots of water and do my monthly detox where I eat fruits and vegetables only.

What is your personal slogan that keeps you motivated?
Whenever you feel like quitting, remember why you started.
What advice can you share with people who wish to lose weight but lack the courage and motivation?
Fight on. You are doing this for yourself and no one else. Be disciplined and do not be too harsh on yourself. Take it one step at a time, you will get there.
