UK TOURISTS PART OF 147TH PARKRUN

MBABANE – The Mbabane parkrun had visitors from the United Kingdom (UK) and South Africa (SA) yesterday.


This was during the 5km timed weekly run which started and finished at Mbabane Club. The UK and SA athletes were among the 105 runners/joggers who participated in the 147th edition of the parkrun.


The UK parkrunners were Michelle Rivett, Kevin Jones, Colin Dinwoodie, Steve Milne and Keith Bennett. The Durban parkrunners were Tanya Ramsunder and Preneshree Perumal.


Noteworthy is that yesterday’s edition marked the celebration of women in parkrun. This event was celebrated globally in all the parkrun following that today is the International Women Day.
Rivett said she travelled all the way from the UK just for the weekly run.

“What keeps me going here is that I run to keep healthy and fit. I also come to the parkrun to make new friends and experience different routes. I have participated in 401 parkruns and done 249 in different venues,” said the 48-year old Port Talbot parkrunner.


She also revealed that she will be opening her own parkrun at her home in Port Talbot in the near future. Meanwhile, Colin Dinwoodie said he drew inspiration from his running partner.


“We have done a number of parkruns together. We have done parkrun in number of countries. We are doing South Africa next before heading back home,” he said. Meanwhile, the winner of the parkrun was Nkululeko Gama in a time of 16:08 minutes while the female winner was Marloes Vrolijk. She announced her arrival in style as she won the race in 28:37 minutes.
