MBABANE – This has been listed as the biggest game of the EswatiniBank Cup fixtures this weekend and it is easy to understand why.

These two sides are experienced campaigners in the local Premier League and boast arguably the biggest support base alongside Mbabane Swallows.
An encounter between these two sides has always aroused high expectations from local football followers particularly the set of supporters from both teams.
Nothing is different even this time around.

What makes the prospects of this game more interesting is the fact that this is a knockout tournament, which means a draw is out of the question – there must be a winner in the end.

popular tournament

Based on current form, Highlanders come into this game as firm favourites to progress to the next round of this popular tournament but such high intensity games have proven that form counts for nothing.

Wanderers may look out-of-sorts in terms of direction but they still have a squad with good individual talent, which on any day, can cause havoc for any opposition including Highlanders.

A big danger would be for the capital city giants to come into this game with the ‘already won’ attitude and be complacent.
That could have disastrous consequences because this is not dubbed a tournament of surprises for nothing – anything is possible. Looking at both teams, Highlanders have the better mental strength to get the better of the Hub giants but in terms of quality, nothing separates the two teams.

Wanderers, on their day, can win any game and this is one match that could turn their poor season around if they approach it in the right frame of mind.

positive results

For Highlanders, it will be all about consistency because they have been showing good form and grinding out positive results in recent times.
They have looked particularly dangerous in knockout tournaments and as already declared by their head-coach, Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati, they want to win both remaining cup competitions including the Ingwenyama MVA Cup where they are already in the final against Green Mamba.

quite different

The Mbabane giants also won the SwaziTelecom Charity Cup at the start of the season and they do look quite different this season under the leadership of South African businessman Ally Kgomongwe who has done more good than bad since taking over the reins in all honesty.

Wanderers will pin their hopes on the likes of Sifiso Maseko, captain Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya and winger-turned defender Sicelo ‘Junior’ Simelane.
For Highlanders, they will rely on the on-form Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze to carry the day for them once again.
This promises to be a thrilling encounter with lots of goals.
