MBABANE – “If you eat today, does it mean you do not have to eat the next day?”  That was Mbabane Highlanders coach Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati’s response to the media during the EswatiniBank Last 16 pre-match interview at Sigwaca House yesterday.

“Wanderers is one of the oldest and most followed teams in Eswatini. We respect them. The team has been hard at training and we are looking forward to the game. If it means dying with our boots on in the field of play, so it will be,” Vilakati said.
“At the end of the day we have to fight to get the positive results. It will not be easy as Wanderers are a strong team.”

“However, just to clarify this,  people will ask themselves whether  we are putting our focus on the Ingwenyama Cup instead of the EswatiniBank Cup; okay let me ask this question, if you have eaten today, does it mean you do not have to eat the next day?” he asked rhetorically. Meanwhile Highlanders’ Sabelo ‘Sawa’ Gamedze said he was looking to maintain his scoring form.

“While it will not be easy against Wanderers, we have to fight for positive results. This is one of the biggest fixtures in the land; it’s the battle of two cities in the country. We will not take them for granted,” he said.
Meanwhile, Manzini Wanderers coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe said they were desperate for a win.

Well

“We are not doing well in the league. We need to perform better in this cup. If we do well here, the results will have a positive impact on our performance in the league,” Hlophe said. He went on to point out that they were a closed book to Highlanders.

“The fact that we have new players makes us a closed book to Highlanders. We will use that to our fullest advantage. While we need the experienced players, who might not be available for the game, we will have to give the chance to the inexperienced players. What is good about the young players is that they are looking to make a name for themselves,” the former Mbabane Swallows coach said.

Meanwhile, Wanderers captain Lwazi ‘Shana’ Maziya said past results won’t count in this game. “We have managed to beat them in the very same cup but that will not come into play in this game. This is a totally different ball game altogether and we are looking to get positive results,” he said.

Maziya went on explain that they knew what was expected of them as players as it had been a while since they won silverware.”
