SEA BIRDS SEEKING REVENGE

Three-time champions Mbabane Swallows face a tricky encounter against Manzini Sea Birds in the Last 16 of the Idlala Kamnandzi edition.

Sea Birds are a familiar ghost for the red and white glamour side as this is not their first meeting in the EswatiniBank Cup knockout tournament.
The two sides met in the 2015 edition at the same stage where the capital city giants won 3-1 on February 21 at Somhlolo National Stadium.
They meet again today and Sea Birds will be all out for revenge after being booted out by Swallows in 2015.

Sea Birds have greatly improved over the years even earning the ‘giant killers’ tag. The two sides’ last encounter was on November 2, 2019 at Somhlolo National Stadium during their 2019/20 MTN Premier League match where Sea Birds, under the tutelage of now Sihangu goalkeeper coach Anthony Mdluli suffered a 2-0 defeat with Wonder ‘Samba Jive’ Nhleko and Thabiso Mokenkoane both on target in the second half. They are yet to meet for the return match of the league second round.

score

Sea Birds will surely want to settle the score as Swallows have been a problematic team for them but given the Mbabane giants’ stuttering run of form these days, a shocking result cannot be entirely ruled out of this encounter. Last weekend, Swallows scraped through with a narrow win after full-back Sifiso Mabila’s last minute strike earned them an unconvincing win against Super League strugglers Sisonkhe.

Sea Birds on the other hand cruised to a 4-1 victory against Super League outfit Rangers away in Nhlangano.
