TOUGH DRAW FOR UN-SEEDED WANDERERS

MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers poor showing in the MTN Premier League will come back to haunt them in the EswatiniBank Cup last 16 draw.


Having finished ninth in the first round, a tough draw await them this morning in EswatiniBank Cup as they are be among the eight un-seeded teams. The last 16 draw will be held this morning at EswatiniBank Auditorium, Mbabane, starting at 10am.


Their chances of being drawn against the top teams in the country are high. Wanderers who escaped with a 5-2 win after penalties against Lubombo Super League side, Rail United finished the MTN Premier League first round ninth while the seeded the teams are those who finished in the top eight in the first round that ended in December.


The eight seeded teams included the defending champions, Young Buffaloes, Mbabane Swallows, Mbabane Highlanders, Royal Leopard, Moneni Pirates, Green Mamba, Denver Sundowns and Milling Hotspurs.


All this eight teams will avoid each during the draw and they are likely to face each from the un-seeded teams including Wanderers, Manzini Sea Birds, Madlenya, Tambankulu Callies, Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows, Illovo, Malanti Chiefs and Tambuti.


The seeding will see the top teams not playing against each other and there will be no derby like it happened in the Ingwenyama Cu last 16.
Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chief Operations Officer (COO) and Secretary to the EswatiniBank Cup Management Committee (MC) Secretary Pat Vilakati confirmed that the draw will be held this morning with the games played over the coming weekend.


“The Chairman will announce the system to be used during the draw and we will follow the rules and regulations as the state it clear how the draw will be conducted,” he said.
According to the EswatiniBank Cup 2020 Rules and regulations, article 15. 6. Seeding will be done for the second round in accordance with the PLE first round log standing.

There will be no seeding in the quarter-finals (Last 8) and the semi-finals (last 4).
Manzini Wanderers Public Relations Officer (PRO) Sandile ‘Ntofo’ Dlamini said they will follow the rules and as a tea they were ready for any club in this tournament as it is a knockout.


“We well aware of the rules of the tournament and for us are to wait for the draw and then prepare for that team that we will be drawn against. This is a tournament that every team wants to win and we are also to win it and we are going to do all out best to make sure that we perform well,” he said.
