MBABANE - Mbabane Golf Club member Sive Dlamini beat close to 20 golfers to win the United General Insurance (UGI) Leg of Lamb competition played at the Royal Swazi Spa Golf Course last Friday.

A well-known sharp shooter with a number of triumphs under his belt, Dlamini seemed to have taken advantage of the cool weather condition to be counted among the highest point-earners in this nine-hole tournament.

Outstandingly, he is the third player since the tournament’s inception in November last year to have recorded 23 points, which is the highest score thus far. The others who scored the 23 pinnacle are Pastor Phil Mnisi and veteran golfer Jurie Mentz.

Playing of a nine handicap on the day, Dlamini reckoned that his game was on point compared to his previous ones on the same course. He was three points better than his runner-up Raymond Mathonsi, who is one of Eswatini’s admired golfers. Not only did Dlamini win the main prize, but also the nearest the pin on the tricky hole 18.

“My driving and irons were all doing what I required of them. I’ve been out of golf for quite sometime and missed it so much due to academic commitments. So when I got here, I wanted to kill the course. Overall, it was a good game,” he said.

Challenges

Dlamini recalled that he was introduced to golf way back in 2012 by his friend Mduduzi Mtsetfwa. He said he enjoyed the game from that time despite its innumerable challenges.

He aspires to practise consistently and play more games with the aim of improving his handicap. He added; “It’s one thing to dream of lowering your handicap and it’s another to actually realise the target because golf is certainly not an easy sport.”

Meanwhile, United Holdings Marketing Manager Mcolisi Dlamini thanked the golfers for embracing the UGI-sponsored tournament.
He said the support received, thus far, has been crucial in the company’s market access initiatives.

“With so much beneficial engagements, UGI shall always look to engage with the golfing community so that we grow with the sport,” Dlamini stated.
