MBABANE – You can get it all in one package. Imagine yourself going around carrying a 20kg bag of potatoes day in and day out for two years.
Now reverse that thought and picture the amount of liberation you would feel when you put it down.

The sigh of relief from that burden is a vivid depiction of how you would feel when you lose that extra weight that has restricted your freedom of mobility and took a toll on your self-confidence.
The Transformation Corner is here to motivate and inspire people to change their lives for the better through healthy eating and regular exercise.

Sharing his weight loss and fitness success journey today is 29-year-old Sibusiso Dlamini, who shook off 20kg extra weight.
Four years of training with Zithande Athletics Club has rewarded him with a well-toned and fit athlete’s body.
Name: Sibusiso Dlamini, 29 years old

Before and current weight: “I weighed 91kg in 2016 and now I’m 71kg”.
What motivated you to lose weight?: “I was only 25 and weighed 91kg. It was not pleasant at all. I wanted to look and feel my age”.
What sort of exercises did you do to lose weight? “I joined Zithande athletics Club and it was through road training that I started shaking off the extra weight”.
How has your life changed now that you have lost the weight? “My physique has changed impressively and I’m a happy man. I’m more active and strong.

Losing the weight has also seen me join local and international races such as the Comrades Marathon, something I never imagined myself doing before”.
What was most challenging about losing weight? “One huge challenge was waking up at around 3:30am so I can be at Zithande training ground at 4am to start training. When I joined the team, I was the slowest runner but my determination and encouragement by coach Nsizwa Thwala and the team has helped me a great deal”.

What is your training routine? “Our training regime involves strength training, a mid-week long run, some fartlek sessions (speed training) and long runs of 15km to 50km on weekends”.

What are your fitness goals? I would like to reduce my weight slightly to 67kg to achieve that elusive three-hour marathon as my Personal Best (PB), which is currently at 3:15 hours. I would also like to reduce my finishing time at the Comrades Marathon from 8:46 hours to 8:30 hours”.
What were the most changes you made to lose weight? “I had to cut down on junk food and carbonated drinks. I try a lot to incorporate vegetables and organic food”.
