MATSAPHA – It was a winning day for Young Buffaloes Coach Dominic Kunene as he was ‘on the podium’ twice on Saturday.

He first finished sixth in the Christmas Shooting tournament in Matsapha before leading his side, Young Buffaloes, to a 1-0 win over rivals, Royal Leopard in the Ingwenyama Cup last 16 at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium in Nhlangano. Kunene was among the 50 shottists who took part in the tournament held at the newly-opened Correctional Pistol Range on Saturday.

Presentation

He missed out in the presentation as he had to join the team in Nhlangano. The winner on the day was UEDF player Zakhele Sithole. The Correctional Service shooting range will now be part of the venues to host tournaments. Other ranges are at Mzimpofu and Nokwane (UEDF). Eswatini Shooting Association (ESA) Secretary Sifiso Mtsetfwa said they were hoping that more tournaments would be hosted following the addition of the venues.

He said two tournaments were not played last year being the Commissioner General and the NATCOM tournament. “We hope these tournaments will be back in 2020. Year 2019 was not bad for us as we hosted a number of tournaments with players improving the standard of play,” he said. Mtsetfwa then reminded teams that they must submit their nominations forms before Thursday ahead of the elective General Assembly to be held on January 25 at Manzini Police Headquarters. He said each team was expected to send representatives to the meeting.
