MBABANE – Long serving Malanti Chiefs defender Thembumenzi ‘Djemba’ Mayisela is headed for Manzini Sea Birds.

According to sources close to the matter, ‘Djemba’, as he is affectionately known, is likely to join Sea Birds before the end of this week.
The source alleged that his team were reluctant to release him because he was a key player at the gold and black ensemble.

Reached for comment Sea Birds Manager London Dlamini confirmed their interest in the player.
“Yes it’s true that we are in talks with Malanti over the player you are asking me about. If the talks are fruitful, he might join us before the end of this week,” Dlamini said.

Asked on why they were interested in the player, he said they felt he had the qualities they were looking for. “We want someone with height and experience. We wanted a leader and ‘Djemba’ is one such player. We are positive that he will add value in the team,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malanti Chiefs PRO Mandla Maduna did not entertain reports that they were frustrating the player by not issuing his clearance.  “We have released players like Nhlanhla Kunene, Muzi Dlamini and Mxolisi Mkhontfo. Those were players that we valued just like ‘Djemba’. We did not stand in their way but released them without an issue,” Maduna said.

Interest

The PRO said that the reason it seemed like they were clinging on to the player was that they wanted the player’s interests to be met by his new employers.
If the deal is fruitful, ‘Djemba’ will be hoping to get the nod in Anthony Mdluli’s books. Sea Birds will face off with Green Mamba in the Last 16 of the Ingwenyama Cup. The game will be played at King Sobhuza II Memorial Stadium and kick-off time is 2pm.
