MBABANE – Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows want to host big games. In fact, they are looking forward to host the country’s big three; Mbabane Highlanders, Mbabane Swallows and Manzini Wanderers at their home ground, Killarney Sports Ground.

According to Chairman Charles Matsebula, the municipal council and business entities in that town have been a major let-down to the team.
Matsebula believes that the municipal council can ensure security measures that can help Black Swallows host the big teams with safety guaranteed.

“If we were to host the big three, we are capable of bringing about 5 000 people to Pigg’s Peak in one day and imagine the kind of business we will be bringing in one day. However, security issues are a concern as other small venues such as the Prince of Wales were closed to host big games due to security issues,” he said.

Win

Matsebula said they were guaranteed a win if they were to host the big guns in Pigg’s Peak and there with the security issues, violence was highly likely to occur.

“We need an understanding with the municipal council to introduce safety measures such as fence and opening wideness of the sports ground. The town council is not supportive,” said the chairman.

He added that local business entities were also letting them down and said they wrote to about 30 after gaining promotion to the elite league, requesting for support but none came forth.

“It is only the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Jabulani ‘Buy Cash’ Mabuza who assisted us with transport and he was not part of the 30 businesspeople we wrote for yet was are bringing business to the town,” he said.

business

If they were to host the big games, Matsebula said every fortnight would be like month end in Pigg’s Peak as far as business was concerned.
“We do not necessarily mean money but any support such as food for the players and football equipment,” said the chairman.
He said to him, he saw no difference in hosting games at Killarney as they made roughly E1 500 while playing in First Division and now they would make around E400 per match.

“It cost about E1 000 to rent the stadium per game and I am not happy as chairman. We cannot force people to support us but we do bring business,” he said.
Matsebula said some of the business have started enquiring what was the problem and how they could help following the team’s poor performance something which the appreciated.

He added that they were all along neglected and concerned businesses were as far as Mbabane. Matsebula said they did not actually need to be supported by the 30 businesses but three or five can make a big difference.
