From the moment the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) unveiled former South Africa’s Orlando Pirates coach Kostadin Papic as the new Sihlangu coach to the fatal death of Malanti Chiefs Burundian import Papy Faty on a football pitch at Killarney Stadium right up to the winless streak of our national team Sihlangu culminating to the departure of Papic, the year 2019 has been an annus horribilis (horrible) year all around.

“There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen,”
Socialist Russian revolutionary leader, Vladimir Lenin had not overdosed on his vodka when he uttered these never-to-be-forgotten words and it best sums up the year 2019 for sports in this beautiful tiny Kingdom of Eswatini.

From the moment the bumbling Eswatini Football Association (EFA) unveiled the former coach of that glorious, indestructible South African soccer giants, Orlando Pirates Kostadin Papic as the new gaffer for our hapless Sihlangu to the one-sided Ingwenyama Cup final when Young Buffaloes strung Mbabane Highlanders as if they were Toni Braxton’s Spanish guitar in a 4-1 massacre on March 17, right up to the fatal death of Malanti Chiefs Burundian import Faty Papy on a football pitch at Killarney Stadium on Thursday, April 25, in addition to Sihlangu bowing out of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers at the hands of lowly Djibouti on Tuesday, September 10 at Mavuso Sports Centre, the year 2019 has been an annus horribilis year.
Sports Editor, LWAZI DLAMINI reviews the year as he best knows how.
