MBABANE – Manzini Wanderers’ challenges seem to be getting worse by the day. It appears their problems will not be solved any time soon as players continue not to get proper training ahead of games. Yesterday, the team was supposed to resume training ahead of the 2019 MTN Premier League first round clash against Tambuti but the training did not take place.

Investigations by the Times Sports Desk revealed that the players were indeed not at training when the team’s original weekly training schedule stipulates that Tuesdays were the day on which the players start training for the week on a normal basis.
Some of the players, who commented on condition of anonymity, confirmed when asked on the situation that they were not at training.

Updates

“We have not been called for training. I do not know whether we will attend or not today (yesterday) but we are expecting updates,” said one player. When sought for comment, the team’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sandile ‘Ntofo’ Dlamini, admitted that the players had skipped training for the day.
However, he was quick to dispute allegations that skipping training by the players had anything to do with the ongoing challenges at the club. He only attributed the situation to a communication breakdown.

“It is true that the players did not attend training today (yesterday) but it was only due to a communication breakdown. The holiday yesterday (Monday) disrupted us but the players will resume training tomorrow (today),” said the CEO.
Meanwhile, head coach Nyanga ‘Crooks’ Hlophe could not be drawn for comment as his mobile phone rang unanswered when called several times yesterday.
It appears that it will be a déjà vu scenario of their last match for the hub giants when they play Tambuti on Sunday at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

Hlophe clearly stated the day before the hub derby that two days of preparation would work against them and indeed, they lost 0-2 to Denver Sundowns.
This prompted their supporters’ fury after the match where the coach had to be escorted out of the stadium by police officers as supporters were baying for his blood.

Again, the team had skipped training yesterday and it stands to be seen if they will resume preparations today as Hlophe lamented the poor training of last week.
