This after the Eswatini Judo Federation (EJF) entered into a protocol agreement with the International Judo Federation (IJF). The agreement was also signed by the EOCGA and ENSRC.

According to a statement issued by EJF Secretary General Tertius Esterhuysen, the equipment was secured during the recent world senior championships in Japan during a meeting between EJF President Princess Thobile and the IJF President Marius Vizer from Hungary.
“The judo federation is expecting equipment to the value of E2 million to arrive towards the end of March.

The equipment will be used in schools for the development of judo,” he said.
Meanwhile, in preparation of about four regional judo tournaments next year, the Eswatini Judo Federation (EJF) has roped-in a Cuban coach.
Esterhuysen said the federation has confirmed the services of educated sports coach from Cuba, Maria Nelis.

“Maria Nelis is a 28-year-old 3rd degree black belt in judo. She started practising judo from the age of three years.
She was given the school provincial sports inspection EIDE programme only at the age of 11 years. After all her good results both provincial and national she was selected to integrate the national pre-selection of judo,” he said.

The secretary also explained that Nelis competed in the La Havana Grand Prix in 2014, where she managed a 7th position from more than 70 participants and graduated in fisica culture and sport in 2015 and then got a job in Santiago as coach of judo in 2016.
“Maria Nelis claims that she is disciplined, respectful and organised. She further claims that she loves her profession of judo. Our federation cannot wait to welcome her into the Eswatini family,” he said.

Believed

Esterhuysen added that federation believed that 2020 will be a huge year for judo in the kingdom.
He also highlighted that the federation has announced the successful negotiations between the general secretary and one of the greatest and most respected judo personalities in world judo to assist them with the coaching crisis in which it finds itself.
