MBABANE – Eswatini international Banele ‘Pupu’ Sikhondze will launch his foundation with a four-team tournament set for December 24 at Mayaluka Stadium in Big Bend.

Interviewed yesterday, Sikhondze, who has just returned to action after a lengthy layoff for his South African Premier Soccer League outfit, Polokwane City, said the four teams to participate in the one-day event would be Ubombo Flyers,  Illovo FC, Mangwanyane and Mahashulane FC.
“I felt the need to also give back to the area I grew up in by forming a foundation and we are launching it on December 24. We will have Mahashulane which will be a team of former payers of Flyers to play in the four-team tournament,” Sikhondze said.

He named some of the former Flyers as, Sanele Mkhweli, Cedric Gulwa, Senzo Dlamini, Musa Dlamini, ‘Papi’ Sikhondze, Sabelo Shongwe, Mbutfo Nhleko, Musa Sikhondze, Thabiso Gumbi, to mention but a few.

“Entry will be free at the stadium. We invite everyone to attend as this will be a family day and start of an annual event where in future we hope to help the underprivileged. My foundation’s main is to help the less fortunate,” Sikhondze added.

The former Mbabane Swallows crafty midfielder said he was happy that he had finally recovered from a long-term ankle injury and is ready to fight for his place in the starting line-up in the Clinton Larsen-coached side.

“It’s really been a frustrating period sitting on the sidelines but I am ready to work extra hard to regain my place in the starting line-up. We have a new coach and there is excitement all around the team camp,” he said.
