MANZINI – What an epic game. Despite attempting a dramatic comeback, Mbabane Jazz were booted out of the Elite Men’s League (EML) play-offs by a resilient Langalam Dunkyalaine club.

This was during the Eswatini National Basketball League (ENBL) play-offs which were played at Mavuso Sports Centre before a roaring crowd of over 200. Dunkyalaine shocked Jazz 86-75 to advance to the finals of EML.

The Mzwakhe Phiri-inspired side will face the winner between Manzini Superstars and Manzini Steels. By the time of compiling this report, the game was still underway.

Dunkyalaine, who are fresh from promotion, took the bull by its horns, as they dominated play in the first two sets.
All thanks to Mzwakhe Phiri and Castroi Villas, who were a marvel to watch during the encounter. It was clear from the way they were playing that they wanted nothing but a win. Taking nothing away from the whole team, the duo was a pillar. They were the driving force to Dunkyalaine winning the first set by 27-13.

leading

In the second quarter, Siboniso Gina came in handy with deadly three-pointers to further stretch their lead. By the end of this quarter, Dunkyalaine were leading by 50-27.

In the third quarter, it was then when Jazz, who have been in almost every EML finals under the MTN sponsorship, turned the tables and the results reflected it all as they won this quarter by 23-15 and in the process closing the gap. The provisional score in the third quarter was 50-65.

All thanks to Jordy Shiba, Phinda Dlamini(former Mbabane Swallows striker), Mzwandile ‘States’Vilakati and Lwazi Mchobokazi, who showed a united front against Dunkylaine in  this quarter. In the last quarter, Jazz showed their experience as they outwitted Dunkyalaine 25-11 but it was a bit too late. The final score was 86-75 in favour of the Lainers. In another National Women League match, Lynx outclassed Shooting Stars.
