REDEMPTION BATTLE AT KILLARNEY

MBABANE – Rookies Pigg’s Peak Black Swallows’ bid to get their campaign back on track continues when they host fellow strugglers Manzini Sea Birds in a relegation six-pointer.

Four defeats in the last five outings have left question marks about the newcomers’ seriousness to extend their stay in top flight football. The last win for the side was back on October 13, 2019 when they beat Mhlume Peacemakers by 2-1. Depending on yesterday’s results, losing this encounter would be disastrous for the hosts, as they could end the weekend in the drop zone.

under pressure

New coach Mandla ‘Stofu’ Dlamini will again be under pressure to deliver after a three-game winless run since coming on board about a month ago.
The outfit are fresh from a major upset in a cup last Friday, losing 0-1 to National First Division side Seven Dreams.

However, the home side will be relieved to face an equally stuttering Manzini Sea Birds, who also boast one win in the last five attempts. Black Swallows’ last win was at the same venue (Killarney), so the players might be boosted mentally. Those expected to steer the ship to calm waters include the experienced trio of Allen Mabuza, Mbuso Mabuza and Siyabonga Mdluli.

For Anthony Mdluli’s men, their campaign so far has also been akin to attempting to fit a square peg into a round hole. They are currently in the drop zone with only eight points in 10 attempts.

They have the ammunition in the likes of Xolani ‘Chocco’ Sibandze, Sandumuzi Zwane, Darren ‘Dazza’ Christie, Sibusiso Dlamini and Muzi Tsabedze, but the struggle continues. Sea Birds are winless in four league matches since beating Manzini Wanderers by a solitary goal on September 29.

It is early days in the campaign, but there is no perfect time of collecting points than now. The two coaches also need the points to tighten their grips on their positions.
