MBABANE – South Africa-based dancer Vuyiswa Zindela has danced her way to the top in the neighbouring country.

Alongside her South Africa dance partner Monnapula Mojapele, Zindela won gold in the South African Open Dance Championship at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom in Durban last Saturday.

The Vaal University of Technology Biomedical Technology student was delighted to leave a mark on foreign land after investing a lot of time in preparations.
stamina

“It is not an easy journey, of course; it takes a lot of hard work determination, discipline, listening and practising what your coach tells you to do. Dance is like any other sport - one has to be very fit and have a lot of stamina. So fitness plays a major role. My partner and I go to the gym at least twice a day and practise our routines every day,” she said.

Zindela, who thanked her coaches for steering her to the top, was mentored by former Eswatini Dance Sport Association (EDANSA) President Mhleli Dlamini.

Dlamini said they were proud to see the product of their Wanna Dance Studio snatching the coveted prize, which is the main title before turning professional. “The sky is the limit, so other dancers should follow suit,” he said.

proud

EDANSA President Sammy Msibi lauded the dancer for hoisting the country’s flag high. “We’re very proud of how Vuyiswa Zindela has been gradually conquering the South African dance sport community. We have been following her work and we are very proud that she has done what no liSwati dancer has done before to become the official South African Dance Sport champion for 2019,” said Msibi.

Msibi wished her the best in the world competitions she was still to participate in.  “This is a sign of great talent in the country that we need to polish and let it fly the Eswatini colours high,” he highlighted.

The last local dance competition of the year, on the other hand, will be held tomorrow at Caritas in Manzini, starting at 11am.
