EZULWINI – The January transfer window is just around the corner and coaches are already preparing to bolster their squads.

Giants Mbabane Highlanders are no exception as news coming from the club is that they have already started negotiations with some of their targets in the elite league. “That’s not all. We’re also going to let some big names go and try to bring in players who will be committed to the interests of the club,” said a highly-placed official in the team.

Bench

The official said the technical bench led by Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati already knew who they ought to release in January. “I’m certain the transfers will be announced soon after the first round but surely, one or two big names will be in it as there have been some challenges with some players in terms of respecting the club’s activities,” said the official. It is worth mentioning that the team’s director Ally Kgomongwe, as he had declared a couple of months ago when Vilakati took over, that ‘I am ready to pay, just tell me you’ve players and I will sign the cheque’, met the team’s patrons, Management Committee (MC) and National Supporters Committee (NSC). He met the structures of the team last Saturday afternoon at Royal Swazi Spa Hotel and Convention Centre.

It was established on this day that Kgomongwe, after being briefed about some of their players’ conduct, allegedly reaffirmed his stance on discipline and further reassured Vilakati that he was ready to pay if new players were required. Also, Kgomongwe presented each patron with the club’s replicas but discussions of the meeting were said to be purely based on officially welcoming the new director by all patrons.

Meanwhile, it also proved futile to establish names of the players who could make the list or those already in the list. Vilakati only confirmed they would make efforts to boost the squad. Kgomongwe, however, gave a hint that he was aware of the misconduct of some players as he said: ‘We have some players who don’t listen’? Some of the players missing in recent games include talented national team Sihlangu midfielder Menzi Sithole, who was not part of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cup 2021 Qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau and Senega0l just recently and South African left back Punch Masenamela.
