MBABANE – He is already searching for greener pastures. That is national team, Sihlangu coach Kostadin Papic who is among the applicants for the Zambian national team, Chipolopolo vacant post.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ), in an advertisement on various medium platforms, is offering US$10 000 salary (about E160 000) for the job on a renewable two-year contract.

“The head coach role represents a key position in the Zambia national team set-up in the cycle 2019-2022. The candidate will be the head coach for the senior men national team and oversee the developmental sides U23, U20 and U17 for both men and women,” read part of the advertised position’s details.
The Serbian’s contract with the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) will end in a month’s time. He is reportedly being paid a sum of E60 000 after tax.

Agreed

Papic, who took over as Sihlangu coach in January, has not agreed to the contract offered to him by EFA and he had already indicated that he would now be taking offers from other nations or clubs as the country was failing to meet his demands.
The former Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates coach has a UEFA PRO licence and he has managed a number of African clubs in South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Tanzania.

Zambia’s publications as well as the Daily Mail stated that Papic applied for the post left vacant by Belgian Sven Vandenbroeck, who was shown the exit door in March. The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) ran an advert and deadline for applications was on Monday midnight.
FAZ Secretary General Adrian Kashala confirmed last week that over 40 foreign coaches applied for the post and it was revealed yesterday that Papic, who once showed interest in the same job in 2006, is among those who hope to secure the hot seat.

Interest

“Not for the first time, Serbian-born coach Kosta Papic, currently in charge of the Eswatini national team, has shown interest in the Chipolopolo coaching job. Papic, who had discussions with officials here about replacing Kalusha Bwalya as Zambia coach around 2006, is among the applicants,” reads the Daily Mail online.

Papic said it was his manager who was handling the issues of applying.

“My manager is doing that. Negotiations with EFA are still going on but we have not reached any agreement up to this far,” he said.
EFA Communications and Marketing Manager Muzi Radebe said the coach was still employed and he was still reporting for duty as his contract stated.
“I cannot discuss personal issues for the coach. We never got information concerning the application of the post of the Zambian national team and we cannot say anything on that as it not in our office,” he said.
