MBABANE – Fast improving golfer Dumisani Msibi was once again on fire this past Friday.

Msibi, who is the Group Managing Director of Fincorp, outplayed a field of 32 to win the third edition of the United General Insurance (UGI) Leg of Lamb played at the Royal Swazi Spa Golf Course. He has been a regular figure on the podium of late. With his 15 handicap, he was two points clear of the four runners-up, who were all sitting at 20 points. His 22 points matched those of the previous week’s winner Dr Ralph Mgijima, the 68-year-old Johannesburg-based medical doctor who is a frequent feature at the Royal Swazi Spa Golf Club.

Commenting about his performance, Msibi said he was encouraged by the results thus far and would make every effort to improve his game even more.
“It’s a very exciting sport and gets one to a relaxed mode after a hectic week. I wish to sincerely thank the sponsor for such a great initiative,” he stated.
Placed second with 20 points and winning on a countback was Ray Dlamini of Eswatini Railways followed by Victor Masilela, popularly known as ‘Mjakajaka’. The last of those on 20 points was Jurie Mentz and winning the last prize with 19 points was Wayne Thomson.

The longest drive on hole 17 went to Eswatini Golf Union’s (ESGU) outgoing President Albert Mhlanga. Meanwhile, the nearest to the pin on hole 14 was snatched by another prominent golf figure, Arthur Horne. One of the exciting elements of this tournament is a raffle draw, which in this instance was won by Phindokuhle Ndlangamandla and Ephraim Kunene. The third edition of the Leg of Lamb got bigger and better with a total of 32 golfers participating in the nine-hole tournament last Friday.

Since its launch about two weeks ago, the E120 000 UGI-sponsored tournament has been recording an excellent field. It looks set to grow bigger and better judging by the excitement shown by all who have played in it. The tournament has attracted close to 70 golfers in its couple or so weeks of existence.

Royal Swazi Spa Golf Director Kevin Connor heaped praises on Philip De Sousa, the Executive Director of United Holdings, which is UGI’s parent company. Connor observed that the introduction of the nine-hole tournament has changed the Royal Swazi Spa’s golf landscape as it provides even hotel guests with opportunities to play competitive golf and broaden their network.

“Players are encouraged to attend prize giving so as to promote the sponsor and make the tournament more exciting,” he said.
United Holdings Manager Sakhile Zwane thanked the golfers for turning up in numbers and further observed that the weather was tempting for a round of golf with friends and acquaintances.
