MBABANE – They are without a director. That is Gucuka Cosmos, who ply their trade in the Lubombo Regional Football Association (LRFA)’s Super League.

The team was established in 1979 at Gucuka and started in lower divisions such as the RSSC Siyakha 1800 North – West and A and B Promotions.
They gained promotion to the super league at the beginning of the 2019/20 season and are looking at maintaining their league status.
Sibonginkhosi Dlamini, a community member who is also the organiser of the team, highlighted that they wished to promote the team after gaining promotion to the super league.

Kit

“The team has many needs and we need much help in regard to the team’s kit and soccer boots for players among other things,” he said. Dlamini said the team had no director and they needed help to run it. He further highlighted that they formerly wrote to one of the elite league clubs’ chairman to request for assistance and he promised to help but it has not yet materialised. “Another issue is the challenge of transport, we are trying to deal with this one and somehow manage but the issue of a kit is more problematic,” said Dlamini. Asked on how much it cost the team to prepare for a weekend match, the organiser said it cost them roughly E3 000.

He said part of this amount included the money used for the coach’s fuel when travelling for away games. He said it cost them around E1 200 for transport only when they have to honour fixtures in places around Simunye.

Dlamini said it was better when they had to travel to nearer places such as Big Bend, as this would cost the around E600 for transport per trip. He added that the team was created in order to help the youth of Gucuka keep busy and stay away from drug abuse and criminal activities.

“Our wish is to see the team getting promoted to upper divisions such as the MTN National First Division and the MTN Premier League,” he said.
The organiser added that they were keen to see their players growing in their careers, such as playing for army teams and big elite league clubs such as Mbabane Swallows among others.

Dlamini also mentioned that the team was from the rural areas and they wished to prove otherwise the notion that playing football was useless, as they aimed at seeing their players get even better employment opportunities through playing football.
