MBABANE – Anglers will put their fishing skills to the test during the Lusip Monster Fish Competition.

The Lusip Monster Fish Competition is an annual Fishing Competition which began at Lubovane Dam, Siphofaneni in 2017. This year, the event will be hosted at Vakasha Lodge, on the banks of Lubovane Dam next Saturday.

According the PRO of the competition, Robert Forbes the aim is to increase visitation to the Lubombo Region and to give people the opportunity to relax in solitude.

“Participants will be able to free their mind from all distractions of everyday life and enjoying the beauty of nature surrounding them in Eswatini; a perfect time for like-minded people to compete in a fishing competition, socialise, and unwind. This fishing competition is a relaxed family-friendly event,” Forbes said.
He further unpacked the goals of the competition.

Goal

“The goal this year will be to collect 500 pair of shoes, to give back to the surrounding community. It is also to help to encourage people, reach their new personal fishing best.” He also said that they were looking forward to hosting a professional well attended fishing competition which would grow from strength to strength.

Forbes further said that they were hoping to host a fun event which promotes a passion for both Tiger and Bass fishing for the whole family. He also pointed out that the bigger picture was to host the biggest cash prize fishing competition in Eswatini.

“The event takes place next Saturday, starting at 7am.The anticipated number of entries for this year’s competition is 100 anglers. This year, organisers have upped their game in the prize department starting off with the big cash prizes of E10 000 for the biggest Tiger fish and biggest Bass caught,” he said.
“We will also have prize categories for the younger anglers and many other giveaways. One of the competition’s main aims is to position itself as a family event- where everyone can take part and be rewarded for their efforts,” he added.

He highlighted that pre entries were still open until November 6 at a fee of E550.00 per angler.
“On the day, entries are welcome at a fee of E650 per angler. The entry fee includes a dinner buffet at Vakasha Lodge. Anglers under 12 only pay the spectator fee as  only anglers over the age of 13 qualify for  the grand prize of E10 000,” he said.

He also said spectators were welcome and would be charged E50 on entrance at Vakasha Lodge.
“They can support the anglers and join in on the live music, enjoy the food and beverages available from Vakasha Lodge restaurant and bar, let the children have fun on the jumping castles and if the heat gets too much, you can cool of in the pool,” he said.

Prize giving will take place at 6pm, followed by a night full of festivities, including local entertainer Jose and South African band, Angus.

“The Lusip Monster Fish Competition is giving back to the surrounding communities by running a shoe raffle. Enter and stand a chance to win a weekend at Kaye’s Tiger Fishing Lodge. All you have to do is donate a pair of new or previously worn shoes and you’ve entered.

The more shoes you donate, the more entries you have into the draw. Winners will be announced at the end of prize giving,” he said.
He also said the event would not be possible without help from the local sponsors.
