Mbabane – The Royal Swazi Sun Golf Club will be a hive of activity every Friday, following the launch of a new golf competition with a total sponsorship of E120 000.

For the first time in its golfing history, the Royal Swazi Sun will host a Leg of Lamb competition for a year with an option to renew.
The new competition will become possible through the generous sponsorship by United Holdings, the fast growing financial services provider owned by renowned business magnate Philip Lobhengula De Sousa.

The competition will be named after United General Insurance (UGI), which is a financial services provider of legal, motor, home and other short-term insurance products.

It is part of a diversified group of companies under United Holdings. The other sister companies are also specialised into various insurance sectors and they include United Life Assurance, United Health Insurance and United Pay Limited.

De Sousa confirmed that the first edition of the new tournament and its official launch will be this Friday.
He stated that it would be an individual stableford with exciting features that will include remarkable prizes, lucky draws and novelties. “We’ve negotiated an excellent deal with the Royal Swazi Sun to have every golfer enjoying discounted green fees. This will be the first of its kind and there is no doubt that the golfers will like it,” he said.

De Sousa said the objective of the tournament was to plough back to the golfing community, which he has been part of for many years. As a businessperson, De Sousa said, he found it befitting to partner with the sport that he loves to promote.

incentives

He said golfers from all corners of the country would be welcomed to be part of the tournament, adding that there will be some incentives every three months for the regular players.
Meanwhile, Royal Swazi Sun Golf Director Kevin Connor said they were very proud of their partnership with United Holdings.

Connor said golfers would be required to register their rounds and only players with 70 per cent record of registered rounds will be eligible to receive prizes. “Each week players will be informed which nine holes will be played for the competition. Players taking up an 18-hole must start on the competition 9 holes,” he said.

He also stated that the cut off time for scorecards is 5pm and the prize-giving ceremony will be 20 minutes, thereafter.
The prizes will be forfeited for players who will not attend the prize presentation ceremony unless prior formal apologies have been made. “We’ll have prizes for the top 5, nearest the pin, longest drive & two lucky draws. We thank United Holdings for their generous sponsorship,” Connor said.

He added; “All who have played at the Royal Swazi Sun in recent months will know what fantastic condition the course is in. Congratulations to the team led by Hein Kock, our intrepid Green Keeper.”
