MBABANE – Malanti Chiefs may have collected only three points out of a possible 27 but they are not panicking yet.

The gold and black ensemble are propped up the MTN Premier League table with just the three points in nine attempts. They have registered one win and suffered eight defeats. However, they are four points adrift of safety. The team’s South Africa-based director, Dumisani Gumede, assured that they would turn the corner, blaming the nightmarish run on lack of luck.

“We play well. We’re just unlucky.
“I can declare that we’re not going anywhere and once we start winning games we can even finish in the top eight. There are still 17 games to play. Some of the teams above  are yet to hit double figures on their points’ tally, so it’s just a matter of winning three games and turn the corner,” he said.

Asked on their squad, Gumede stressed that their team was good and even ‘better than that of last season’. Their key players include marksman Charles Molopo and the seasoned quartet of Sandile Mazibuko, Innocent Jere, Lindokuhle ‘Ntolo’ Fakudze and Thembumenzi Mayisela.

“We’ve been just unfortunate this year after losing a player (Papy Faty). Our PRO (Lungile Dube) was also involved in a car accident. We won’t despair, but pick up the pieces,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malanti were last relegated at the end of the 2015/16 season after accumulating 12 points after 22 games. They had registered two wins and six draws to finish at the basement. They quickly bounced back to the Premier League.
