PLAYERS LACK RESISTANCE TRAINING - FRITZ

LOBAMBA – Local football players will probably never match West African players.

This is the feeling of veteran football administrator and coach Fritz Seilbea which he disclosed yesterday at the Technical Centre, Lobamba.
The former national team, Sihlangu director of coaching was the guest instructor at the Eswatini Football Coaches Association workshop.
Worth noting is that Sihlangu will first visit Guinea-Bissau on November 11 before hosting West African giants Senegal in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier on November 19.

This follows an exit by the locals from the 2020 African Nations Championships (CHAN) finals to be staged in Cameroon at the beginning of the year.

They lost 2-3 on aggregate against Zambia’s Chipolopolo on Saturday. Sihlangu lost 0-1 in the first leg of the final round of the qualifiers last month and played to a 2-all draw away this past weekend.
If they are to match their West African counterparts, local coaches should introduce resistance training for the locals, at least according to Seilbea’s observation.

Wikipedia describes resistance training as strength training specialising in the use of resistance to induce muscular contraction which builds the strength, anaerobic endurance, size of skeletal muscle and bone density.
“Resistance training is critical; for example, the usage of weights which is embraced by West Africa nations which is easily noticeable from their physique and which is why their game is always above ours,” said Seilbea.

He said it was obvious that the West African players used weights and the locals on the other side only do training for fitness of the lower part of the body.
Apart from his theological tutorials of sport science, the coaches were also taken through the physical aspect part where Manzini Sea Birds players were used to demonstrate proper training techniques led by Musa Mamba.
The physical training part lasted for about one-and-a-half hours before a second session of the tactical aspect continued.
