MBABANE – Ace golfer Nobuhle Dlamini has maintained her cutting edge in neighbouring South Africa.

After a recent dominant display in Europe, the Lobamba-born golfer returned closer to home to win a professional women’s tournament at the Origins of Golf Selborne in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa, on Wednesday. According to a report from Sport24, Dlamini claimed the victory over closest challenger in England’s Lauren Taylor, by carding a 73 in the final round to finish on one-under-par 143 in the two-round tournament. She won E16 000 in cash.

“Having led by five shots overnight after firing an impressive 70 in difficult conditions during the opening round, Dlamini was the favourite to go into the final round. Despite consecutive bogies on the fifth and sixth holes of the second round, the player from Eswatini never let Lauren Taylor or Jane Turner - who finished third - get too close.

worthy winner

“Her final score of 143 for the two rounds ensured Dlamini was a worthy winner, despite Taylor’s attempt to mount a strong charge to victory mid-way through the final round,” read the report in part.

Dlamini expressed her delight to prevail under challenging conditions.
“Yesterday was a really good day for me. The wind was blowing but I was able to hit into the right positions” the Origins of Golf Selborne women’s champion said.

“That accuracy from the tee box made the rest of my round easier. Today though, the wind was blowing from a different direction. Even though it wasn’t blowing as strongly it played a lot tougher. I didn’t make as many puts today but overall I’m really happy with how I played and of course I’m really happy to take the win,” Dlamini was quoted saying.

The final event in the 2019 Origins of Golf women’s series takes place from October 29 until the following day at Simola Country Club. The Jack Nicklaus designed course is a favourite among the players.

Meanwhile, Dlamini has been phenomenal in 2019. She won tournaments that included the Johannesburg Open and Dimension Data early this year. Also back in Europe, she won over E200 000 in three tournaments in Spain, India and France. She is currently back in South Africa ahead of her expected return to Spain late next month.
