MALKERNS RULE ESRIC DARTS LEAGUE
MANZINI – Malkerns Darts Club’s 100 per cent win record in the Eswatini Royal Insurance Corporation (ESRIC) Darts National League has earned them the E10 000 first prize money.
The club that bounced back four years ago in the hands of Jay Hall, won all their 34 league games to make history and also claimed the championship. The prize presentation of the E100 000 ESRIC sponsored League was held yesterday at The George Hotel with the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga among the guests. The club is comprised of seven players in Jay Hall, veteran player Friday Mncina, Simon Maseko, Mduduzi Masango, Paul Jolly, Hannes Van Heerden and Douglas Masuku.
Remarkable
They finished the league with a remarkable 102 points. Coming second was Correctional Services, who took home E8 000, while Kilowatts A team was third and presented with E7 000 and bronze medals. There were 18 teams that competed in the league. The club’s chairman, Jay Hall, said when he arrived in the country 10 years ago, he was hooked up to the sport by Scara Gama, who is among the pioneers of the sport in the country. He said his intention was not to join a club but to form one and Malkerns Darts Club was revamped.
“This is a dream come true and we finished the league undefeated. We achieved this through hard work, dedication and commitment. We love the sport and we are happy that companies like ESRIC have come on board and support the sport. We now want to compete at international level,” he said. The club got accolades from all the guests present, including Minister Bulunga, ESRIC General Manager Zama Ngcobo, Eswatini National Darts Association (ENDA) Secretary Sibusiso Baartjies who represented the President Bheki Nkonyane.
