ARMED FORCES UNFREEZING PLAYERS
MBABANE – Are security forces sides slowly unfreezing their loaned players? As the 2019/20 season is in full swing, more key players from the security forces teams are now facing their parent clubs.
Veteran midfielder Siboniso ‘Rocco’ Malambe, who is from Royal Leopard, played against the police side on September 25 in Big Bend when the blue and white ensemble beat Mhlume Peacemakers by 1-0.
On September 13, Mcebo Mdluli, who is from Green Mamba, scored the only goal for Tambuti when the latter won 1-0.
Asked on the developments, Green Mamba CEO Thami Phakathi said the availability and unavailability of loaned out players depended on the arrangements with that particular team, highlighting that they did allow others to face them in previous outings.

“It depends on the agreements between the two teams. In most cases, players who are given to other teams for free do not face the parent team,” he said.
Leopard PRO Frank Hurube almost echoed Phakathi’s words, saying it all depended on the arrangements with the affected clubs. He had been asked if allowing ‘Rocco’ to play was in reaction to the pre-season uproar over the armed forces, but he responded to the negative. Last season ‘Rocco’ was at Moneni Pirates and he did not face Leopard.
“In most cases, the players find it awkward to face their employer and ask to be excused,” he said.
Peacemakers PRO Bheka Magagula said they agreed that ‘Rocco’ would play on the day, as they had a good partnership with Leopard. He could not disclose finer details of the deal.
Reports suggest that while other players will be allowed to play in the league, they might still be frozen for crucial games, especially knockout tournaments.
Meanwhile, in pre-season, there was a debate and an uproar over the freezing of players who face the security forces teams, among other concerns.
As a result, a task team led by astute sports administrator Mashumi Shongwe was put in place to look into an alleged unfair advantage. It was discussed during the Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) General Assembly and it was reported that a way forward would be known after consultations with the EFA. EFA is the Eswatini Football Association (EFA).
