MBABANE – Manzini Sea Birds central midfielder Sinethemba Dlamini will not kick a ball again in the 2019/ 20 season.

This comes after breaking his leg following a crude tackle by Manzini Wanderers defender Sanele Mkhweli on Sunday during the MTN Y’ello Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium. The 22-year-old is currently admitted at the Medi-sun Clinic, Ezulwini. Dlamini will see a physiotherapist today and he is expected to be on the plaster of paris for a maximum six month. During a visit to his ward yesterday, the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) student was found in the company of his mother Dudu, brother Senanelo and cousin Tematimandze Kunene.
He said it could have been worse if the paramedics and Manzini Wanderers medical team did not quickly attend to him. He said he bled profusely from the injury as his broken bones’ pieces pieced over the skin.

Dlamini said since he had been admitted at the hospital, he had been receiving tremendous support from Mkhweli, Manzini Wanderers team, Manzini Sea Birds, football players and his family. He said he never expected such support which has made him stronger and wants to fight to come back and play the sport he loves. “There was no intention from Mkhweli. He was trying to clear the ball while I have already played a pass to Darren Christie and then he got my leg while I was flat footed and that is when I broke the bones. I couldn’t believe it. It is something that happened in football and I’m not the first to suffer such an injury,” he said. Manzini Wanderers defender Sanele Mkhweli has sent an apology to the team, player and his family.

He said he was shocked that Dlamini suffered such an incident that is a threat to his football career. “It was not by intention. I was trying to clear the ball and only to kick his leg. Just after the kick I heard a loud bang and blood was all over. I’m happy that I paid a courtesy visit to him and talked about this. I pray that he recovers on time and bounce back to play,’ he said.
Mkhweli then apologised to the Wanderers family for the red card. He said he believes that if it was not for the red card, they could have collected maximum points from the game.
The injury suffered by Dlamini reminded the football fraternity of then Mbabane Swallows Mgonodi Sidell who also fractured his leg and Mbabane Swallows Captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze.
