MBABANE – Score at least two unanswered goals against Zambia and earn E2.6 million.

That is the simple equation for stuttering national side Sihlangu ahead of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) final round second leg qualifier against Zambia on October 19. This is prize money that will go to the team that will win this clash. It is prize money for just earning a spot in the CHAN tournament to be played in Cameroon early next year. After losing by 0-1 in the first leg at Mavuso Sports Centre, Sihlangu need to score away in Ndola, Zambia, to boost chances of earning a ticket to Cameroon.

Money

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revised the prize money for all its tournaments in 2016 and this saw the winners’ prize for CHAN shooting up to E18.5 million.  Sihlangu reached this stage after eliminating both Malawi and Angola. They beat Malawi on an away goal following a 1-all draw on aggregate. In the second round against Angola, the national outfit needed the ‘dreaded lottery’ to shake off the opponents. It is the first time for Sihlangu to reach this round of the qualifiers. Coach Kostadin Papic, in a post match interview, had expressed hope that his troops would grind the win on the road after scoring in all recent away games including the shocking 1-2 loss to Djibouti.
