SIHLANGU AN ACCIDENT THAT LONG HAPPENED!

Sihlangu seMnikati’s expected early elimination from the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers last Tuesday afternoon at the Mavuso Sports Centre is a clear indication that the squad’s struggles at the international stage are quickly becoming the country’s identity.

To put it unequivocally, incompetence and Sihlangu in important international games (not the insignificant or rather useless CHAN games) is now intertwined like tongue and saliva.
This is especially true when you consider that the squad failed to beat a sorry, average and lowly-ranked Djibouti at home, which was an insult to those who wasted their precious time and hard-earned money to watch this regrettable display. There is no excuse for such shocking performance and if anything, it just shows that our football is nothing but a mess or even worse – a joke. Those that are still unfortunately nursing false hopes that the squad is improving under the current coach Kostadin Papic must start applying their minds correctly because such thinking defies common sense.

Punishment

After all, they say common sense is not a gift but a punishment because you have to deal with everyone who does not have it. Bekunene, let us not fool ourselves and harbour hopes that Papic is bringing any lasting change in the squad, I mean the man is yet to record a win as Sihlangu coach after so many games in charge and that should tell you that the future prospects of the squad are not bright at all. Yes, there are some improvements especially in the way the players are able to keep possession but the problem with Papic’s style of football, even during his time at Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs in South Africa, is that it is not productive. It is that kind of football that is only pleasing to the eye without providing the desired results at the end. Sihlangu need to start winning games and the reality is that this is not happening under Papic. It is not my intention to sound like a prophet of doom but I hate raising false hopes at the same time.

Let us look at this in the bigger picture and avoid being too sentimental when assessing Papic because admittedly, he is a likeable coach.
