EZULWINI – A change of plan resulted in visiting Djibouti to be stranded at the King Mswati III International Airport.

This, after Djibouti changed their initial plan to arrive at the airport at 2pm without informing the Eswatini Football Association.
The 28-member delegation landed at the airport at around 8am and they had to wait at the airport as no one was aware of their arrival.

According to sources at the airport, the visitors stayed for almost three hours at the airport before they eventually got assistance from the EFA. To the rescue was one good Samaritan who called one of the EFA officials.

Earlier when EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe was called for comment, he said he was not aware if they had arrived yet because he only knew they would be in the country at 2pm.

“Please contact the attache’ Vusi Hall; he might help you but I only know that they were expected at around 2pm,” he said.
Later at around 11:30am, the attache’ Hall was called, he did not want to comment much other than to confirm that they picked the team at the airport at around 11am.

Interestingly, Djibouti coach Julien Mette confided to this publication that it was not EFA’s fault that they were stranded. He was interviewed yesterday at Lugogo Sun where the team is booked until match day on Tuesday. The ‘Shoremen of the Red Sea’ will cross horns with Sihlangu Semnikati at Mavuso Sports Centre and kick-off time is 3pm.

“Look, we had to change plans because we were finalising the list of players to the game. We changed flights and it happened earlier than we thought. We do not regret though because we came earlier, it is better to be earlier than late,” Mette said.
He further said the EFA was not to be blamed for this.

Coming to the game, the coach said they were here to ensure that they qualified to the next round.
“You know it will be history for us to advance to the next round. It won’t be easy though because Eswatini has good players,” he said.

The visiting team will be training today at Ezulwini Sports Ground at 11am and later at 3pm. They will train at Mavuso Sports Centre tomorrow at 3pm.The French-coached side managed to beat Sihlangu 2-1 at their own backyard last Wednesday in the Qatar World Cup Qualifiers.
