NELSPRUIT - Mbombela United is a proud product of Mbabane Swallows. This is according to the GladAfrica Championships side Chairman Oupa Matsebula.

He said the team belonged to Eswatini and it is just the border lines and the different leagues that make the difference. He said that is why the team boasts of only Eswatini players who are registered as internationals.

Its technical bench is headed by liSwati in Siyabonga Bhembe and Dennis ‘Yuki’ Masina as Assistant Coach. Matsebula said he worked closely with ‘The Birds’ during the time of the late Chairman Victor ‘Maradona’ Gamedze and he learnt a lot from him.

History

“Eswatini is my home because I have a huge history as I once lived there and attended school at St Phillips School and my brothers went to St Marks School. The team belongs to Eswatini and I’m happy that I have worked so closely with other football stakeholders, especially Mbabane Swallows. Even the players from Eswatini can attest that they are feeling at home here and we do most of the things the Eswatini way,’ he said.

He said Mbabane Swallows shocked many when they reached the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Group stages with local players leading the way. He said that proved that Eswatini players are good Footballers.

Matsebula said he did not regret on investing on the local players as they are the kind of players he wants  in the club. He said the players boasts of international experience that was helping the team in its quest of getting promotion to the ABSA Premiership League. Matsebula added that he would like to work more closely with local teams especially in promoting players.

“There is a huge talent in Eswatini and those players needed  exposure to reach greater heights. They just need the stepping stone and some have not been able to make it due to the limited market. I believe that if we can work closely, football can benefit all stakeholders, players, fans and the clubs,” he said.

Mbombela United local players are Felix Badenhorst, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu, Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa, Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza (All signed from Mbabane Swallows) and Justice Figureido.
