NELSPRUIT – It’s going to rain money for Mbombela United players including the five local stars.

They will be pocketing E5 000 for each victory in their efforts to get promotion to the Absa Premiership League. They received the first incentive on Saturday after their impressing 1-0 victory over relegated side, Free State Stars, on Saturday at KaNyamazane Stadium during the GladAfrica Championships. This also means the players could earn as much as E45 000 in total per month as their salaries range between E25 000 and E30 000.

“The team Director Oupa Matsebula incentivised the players with at least E5 000 each for the crucial victory,” said a source close to the matter. The players were then released after the match for international duties and others are on a break as it is FIFA international week. Local players who play for the Mpumalanga-based side include Sihlangu Captain Felix Badenhorst, striker Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa who travelled with the team to Djibouti for the first leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The others are Justice Figureido, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu and Sandile ‘Nkomishi’ Ginindza.

The trio of Felix, Sikhali and D4D all started in the win against Free Sate Stars while Nkomishi watched from the bench with Figureido on the stands due to grass burn injury.
A source close to the matter confirmed that all was rosy for the players at Mbombela United. He said the team’s main focus was to get promotion to the Absa Premiership next season.

Incentives

“All the players went home smiling after the win and the incentives. The team believes that it has had a good start in the league having won one game and drawn the other,” said the source. The team’s Director Oupa Matsebula said the players were at home with Mbombela United. He said the only difference was just the boundaries. “We are happy to have these players from Eswatini where it is home. They are really doing a wonderful job for the team and to me it’s a good investment. They have international experience that most of the teams in this league do not have. They have played and did well in big stages including the CAF Champions League and now they are here and they want to deliver and we have given them the platform to succeed and we believe they will,” he said. Matsebula said he was happy that he was releasing the players for international duties and they would come back to share that experience with the rest of the squad.
